To do lists and tasks, busyness, progress, balancing it all and rockin’ it! We hear it all the time, right? What are you doing? How are you moving forward in your career? What trips are you planning? Yadda, yadda, yadda. It seems like life moves faster and faster and we can’t catch up. So how does intentional living fit into a crazy busy life?
Over the years, we have had our fair share of busy. A husband in school, kids coming and I was usually working a couple of jobs to make ends meet. It became fairly obvious that certain “standards” were going to have to ease up because we just could not do it all. Through a lot of google searches and good friends’ suggestions, I started to let go of unreal expectations. We started to really examine what was important to our family, our culture, our future.
Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.Ephesians 5:8-10
Intentional living is really just that, thinking about all that fills our daily schedules and mental spaces and really questioning them. Are they in line with our vocation, mission, family goals? Are we just doing them because we “think we should”. Each season of life of course comes with new challenges or opportunities to reassess, shift, refocus. It is a constant conversation that has to happen. I have been learning too that it is best to have a lens to see through when processing life’s many pressures or obligations.
This lens – very simply put – will this lead me, and our family, to Heaven… our ultimate mission. While not every decision can be answered this simply, it is a great place to start. This quote from Ephesians is a beautiful one to reflect on. Is the way I am living, pleasing to the Lord? Am I saying yes to this function for my own benefit, glory, etc. or is this for His Glory.
Follow along for more inspiration as we continue to discover living intentionally, for a joy-filled life.
